Wastewater treatment procedure

Developing business and production in alignment with environmental sustainability is the principle of Ajinomoto Group globally. According to the Group's orientation, Ajinomoto Vietnam Company always tries to become a model citizen in utilizing energy and natural resources efficiently. Conserving water resources and treating wastewater are always our top concerns. So, how is the wastewater treatment procedure in Ajinomoto?

To protect water resources, Ajinomoto Company has built and put into operation 2 systems including: Modern cooling towers and wastewater treatment that apply advanced biological nitrogen technology.

In the production procedure at Ajinomoto factories, a large amount of water is used to cool down the machinery system. Ajinomoto Vietnam has implemented advanced technology by building a cooling tower system with separate water reservoirs, utilizing a water circulation system to cool the machinery. From the time of going into operation until 2017, the amount of water used for heat dissipation has decreased by 84.5%.

Regarding our wastewater treatment system, we have invested more than 100 billion VND to build and put into operation a modern system at Ajinomoto Factory in Bien Hoa. The system applies advanced biological nitrogen treatment technology from Japan with a treatment capacity of up to 3,400 m3 wastewater/day. Wastewater after treatment meets Vietnamese Standards (QCVN 40:2011/BTNMT column A) and Ajinomoto's "Zero-emission" target. Discharge activities are always strictly controlled by an automatic wastewater monitoring data recording system and online reporting to the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Dong Nai province. Only treated wastewater that meets the required standards is discharged into the Dong Nai River.

In addition, Ajinomoto Vietnam also promotes the reduction of water exploitation from nature. Understanding that the treated wastewater always meets Vietnamese standards and is a reusable resource, the Company has utilized this water for a number of side activities such as cleaning the floors, toilet system in the factory... By reusing this treated wastewater, it is estimated that our factory can save up to 2,400 m3/month (until 6/2023) of clean water, contributing significantly to natural water conservation.
