Reduction of Green House Gas

Along with the rapid development of the country's economy, the issue of environmental protection has also become more and more important and a top concern. One of the biggest challenges is the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

Current status of greenhouse gas emissions in Vietnam
According to the National Technical Report on GHG emissions of Vietnam in 2014 (Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment in 2018), in the fields of GHG emissions, the proportion of GHG emissions in the Energy sector (including transportation) holds the lion's share with 53.8%, followed by agriculture with 27.92%, industrial processes and product consumption with 12.01%, and waste with the share of 6.69%.

Consequences of greenhouse gas emissions
Emissions continue to increase with global warming, which can trigger many weather phenomena such as intense heat, heavy rain, melting ice, or rising sea levels, and all this will have serious socio-economic impacts

Activities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions at Ajinomoto Vietnam
Reducing greenhouse gas emissions is one of the main goals at Ajinomoto Vietnam in environmental protection and social responsibility, starting with the following actions:

1. Application of biomass boiler using 100% agricultural by-products, which is rice husk firewood

Every month, at Ajinomoto Bien Hoa factory, a large amount of hot steam is used: an estimated 40,000 tons of steam/month to operate the production system.

In fact, the use of fossil fuels (coal, gasoline, oil) as fuel for boilers will increase greenhouse gas emissions (Carbon Dioxide CO2), causing global warming. It is estimated that 1 liter of gasoline can release more than 3 kg of CO2 into the atmosphere. Therefore, Ajinomoto Vietnam has put into operation a boiler using biomass material from rice husk for steam production at Ajinomoto Bien Hoa factory, helping to reduce 48% of CO2 emissions into the environment.

Not only that, the Company also installed a cogeneration system at the BIOMASS boiler in order to take advantage of this raw material to produce electricity in parallel with the solar battery system on the roof of the Southern Distribution Center and boiler area, contributing to reduce dependence on hydroelectricity and thermal power systems, which are the two main sources of electricity production currently affecting the environment.

2. Using solar energy

Towards the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, Ajinomoto Vietnam Company carries out activities to reduce electricity and promote the use of renewable energy sources. To achieve this goal, in addition to the solar power system installed and tested, the Company has researched and prepared to install a solar power system on the roof of the Southern Distribution Center building at Ajinomoto Long Thanh factory with an area of 16,000 m2, with a capacity of 2000 KW.

It is expected that by 2030, Ajinomoto Vietnam will achieve a renewable energy rate of 50%, helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in all operations, to raising awareness of the use of clean energy sources and environmentally friendly, contributing to realizing the common goal of Ajinomoto Group and its member companies worldwide in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
